United States Records Research  

The Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah holds millions of microfilmed County, Federal, State, City and Town records for the United States, as well as many published lineage, surname and County histories.  If the records are stored at the FHL, I can provide copies for you.  Following is a list of the types of records that are generally available:

Record Types

  • Vital Records: Births, Marriages, Deaths
  • Federal Censuses: 1790-1880, 1900-1920 (1870 and 1910 are only partially indexed, 1890 is available only for a few states)
  • State Censuses: Various Years, Various States
  • Probate Records: Wills, Estates, Administrations
  • Military: Colonial, Revolutionary (Service and Pension), War of 1812 (Service), WWI Draft
  • Land Deeds
  • Tax Records
  • Court Records: Guardianship, Divorce, Bastardy
  • Immigration and Naturalization
  • Cemetery and Tombstone Inscriptions
  • Various Church records - Baptisms, Christenings, Marriages, Burials, Confirmations
  • Town, County, and State Histories
  • City Directories (Most large cities' directories are available to 1935, some later.)
  • Family Surname Histories
  • New Records at the Family History Library

 


How to Order a Record    Animated Flag

Send to Me

E-mail, snail mail or fax (801) 947-9914 your request to me and please include the following information:

  1. Record type to be obtained,
  2. Name of individual to be found,
  3. Birth date for said individual or his/her approximate age during the event year,
  4. Any other identifying information (spouse, children, occupation, etc.)
  5. Name of the City, Town, County, or State,
  6. FHL Call number (optional),
  7. Your name, mailing address, e-mail address, any home page URL,
  8. A statement that you "agree to pay all NCGR fees relating to the search."

I will contact you, acknowledge receipt of your request, and let you know if the records are indexed.  If they are not indexed, I will provide an estimate of the cost to obtain the record(s).

You Will Receive

  1. A fully labeled copy of all documents,
  2. A research calendar detailing the record sources examined,
  3. An invoice. 

Record Search Fees

Fee Type of Record

$40.00 per Hour

Any record search.
Immigration and naturalization searches.

All common name searches.

Large Metropolitan Areas (Chicago, New York, Newark, Los Angeles, Cleveland, etc.)

Copy Costs

$.30 (twenty-five cents) each

Postage and
Handling

$6.00 for up to 1 lb.,
$13.00 for over 1 lb.,

Extra charges apply for Priority, Express, International, and FedEx shipments.

My fees are set up to be simple, streamlined and affordable. If you have a number of records to be searched, it is generally cheaper to make a list and have me do all the searches for you on an hourly basis. If you have any questions, please contact me.
