OBITUARY:  "The Telegraph" Newspaper, Meigs County, Ohio; Published May 6, 1891; abstracted by Connie schumaker.
Information from Obituary:  "Jonah Woodruff, another old pioneer who had more than passed the allotted three score years and ten, died very suddenly at his home near Bowman's Run, last Wednesday evening. Mr. Woodruff, it is said, returned in his usual health about 7 o'clock but at about ten got up from bed and feeling a smothering sensation, thought he would try smoking to clear his throat, but in a moment he reached the pipe to his lip and at the same instant said "I am dying," and immediately expired. Mr. Woodruff was an old resident of Meigs county, and for many years was engaged in the saw mill and lumber business at Bowman's Run. He was well known throughout this section of the county, especially by the older people. He leaves a wife and three daughters. He was a member of the United Brethren church. His funeral took place from his old home, and his remains were buried in the family grave yard."

Charles A. Hartley, "Tribue-Telegraph," Newspaper, published September 14, 1921.
"A SABBATH DAY'S JOURNEY
A glance to the westward on the peak of a hill half a mile away was revealed the last resting place of the Lewis Nease family. The cedars planted there  when the first of the family was buried stand out in bold relief in the increased light of the advancing sun. Even the monuments are clearly visible at that distance. A final survey of  the land-landscape before moving on seemed to bring the impression that the valley had shrunk in width. When
we boys scaled those giant shellbarks for nuts the bottom lands appeared to be half a mile wide. Now it looks like one could throw across it with a finger stone. It must be the difference in the eyes of youth and  old age.
With ten miles before me to make on foot for day, I shuffled onward. Two hundred yards further along came the forks of the road where one road turned to the right toward the old Jonah Woodruff mill pond and saw and grist mill. But here is an iron bridge instead of the ford, another mark of advancing civilization. It is much easier for automobiles to get along that way than to drive down an embankment and plunge through a stream. That is why the iron
bridge has appeared.
Speaking of that old millpond and gristmill brings back a troop of memories. We boys fished in the pond in summer and skated on it in winter. The water was filled with little mud-cat fish and pumpkin seed sunfish, while down below the dam in the pools were often larger fish which came up from the river. Sometimes a flood would go over the top of the dam and add a fresh supply of river fish which made the next summer a delightful one to the
embryo fisherman.
The miller, Mr. Woodruff, was a plump jolly sort of fellow when in a good humor.  When we boys teased him too much he could be as grouchy as the next one. He had two daughters, Samantha and Rebecca. Samantha still lives in sight of the old home place as Mrs. Nial Salser. Rebecca now a widow occupies the home place when not away with her children.
I stand at the forks of the road and look up the Woodruff way with a sigh for the dead. There is a family cemetery up that way which holds the dust of some of my dearest people. With another sigh I move on up the straight road which leads to the Nease Settlement. Just to drive away my blues, I imagine, a quail up in a thicket begins to whistle merrily, and just
over my head in the tree tops is a ruction of the crow family. They seemed to be fussing about something, perhaps about getting up early on Sunday morning."
